Black best bitter

Hey guys , this is my first post here. I wanted to get some opinions on an all grain recipe I created. I just brewed a big IPA so I wanted to do something smaller, and I have always enjoyed bitters but I have never brewed one. I also really wanted to brew a black pale ale. So I smashed the two styles together an this is what I will call a black best bitter.

3 gal batch

60 min mash 156

6# Maris otter pale malt
1# crystal 80L
1# victory malt
.5# carapils

.75# black malt ( added last 15 minutes of the mash)

.75 oz cluster @60
.5 oz fuggles @15
.5 oz fuggles @5
.75 oz fuggles 0 mins

47.39 ibus

Wyeast 1275 Thames valley ale

Let me know what you think. I know it's a little strange but I think it should be a fun winter beer.

Bump... Is it really that weird?

Even in the last 15 mins,I reckon you may be pushing it with the black. Try cold steeping or some Carafa II/III special to get you the colour and restrained dark malt notes,in order not to clash with the hops.

Do you like porters and English stouts? Because that's what you're going to get. Also, even if you dropped the black malt, although you don't list your anticipated OG/FG, at 3 gals that grain bill looks like you'd be outside the range of a best bitter.

That being said, if you brewed that up as-is, you'd have a nice dark beer. Lots of roast and ash-like taste, but with the full lb of crystal it should hold up against all the hops and roast.
