BJCP styles????

I recently brewed a Smoked Porter and high gravity Wheat. For both sessions I spilt the 10 gallon batches between 2 secondary fermenters so I could have a Fruit and a non fruit version of each thus yielding a total of 4 different styles. See below:

1. Smoked Porter
OG 1.050
Smoked Malt = 8% of total grain

Should I enter this as a 12B Robust Porter, 22B Other Smoked Beer or 23 Specialty Beer?

2. Smoked Blackberry Porter
Should I enter this as a 23B Specialty Beer or 20 Fruit Beer?

3. Wheat (would you classify this as an imperial wheat)
OG 1.078
35% German Wheat Malt
I have no idea what to enter this as.

4. Apricot Wheat
Should I enter this as a 23B Specialty Beer or 20 Fruit Beer?


Any feedback you can provide will be greatly appreciated. At the end of the day at least I'll have a boat load of yummy beer to drink :rockin:

2. 23A
3. What yeast did you use? Likely this should go in 23A as well.
4. 20A

My opinion:
1. 22B, other smoked
2. 23 Specialty
3. What kind of yeast did you use? If it is similar to hefe, you might be able to get a way with 15A otherwise 23 Specialty.
4. 20, Fruit beer

(It seems that I am in agreement with Tonedef131 )

1. 22B Other Smoked Beer - will probably have less competition
2. Tough call, it might depend on how prominant the fruit is, but I might go with 23B
3. I would classify that as imperial; perhaps enter as a specialty beer
4. see #2, but prob a fruit beer

That was quick....

I used WPL400 Belgian Wit Ale for the wheat

For both the wheat and the Porter I used 1 49oz can of Oregon fruit Puree each

Tough to say then, I would guess 23A but you really just have to taste it and see where it fits best.

Yes.

Seriously! Why restrict yourself? If you've enough bottles to enter the appropriate amount in each category, go nuts!

Unless, of course, there's some sort of rule against entering the same beer in multiple categories. If there is, I've never encountered it.

The only drawback is you have to send more of your beer for competition.

P.S. The blueberry smoked porter sounds really intriguing!

P.P.S. The non-fruited wheat beer sounds like a prime candidate for 15C to me.
