I could dig into the style sheets nad read up, but what I'm considering is: How far apart are the Irish Red, that is the only beer to actually have the word red from The Amber (also only one listed) as far as drink-ability.

I like most Reds. I find most Ambers drinkable but boring.

I like the hops and tin in the reds.

Anyone else that has had a chance to taste a number of both styles care to comment?

Both are very drinkable but are vastly different styles. Diacetyl is acceptable in an Irish Red while not in an Amber. Esters are acceptable in an amber while not so in a red. They both cover the same range in body though ambers finish fuller while reds are dryer. Hop flavor is moderate to high in ambers while reds have little to none English hop flavor. Both share caramel like qualities in aroma and flavor but ambers are more balanced while reds are more malt forward. Hop aroma in a red is low to none while low to moderate in an amber.

Hope this helps!
