Big Tall Vertical Blow off Tube

After losing 25% of my thick high gravity ale to foaming overflow, I'm thinking about trying a 2 inch inside diameter clear tube that rises straight up 3 feet and is topped with a 3/8 tube that comes down into a bucket of sanitizer to keep the system sealed. Surely the foam will relent and fall back in a tube that big. Right?

It's called a blowoff tube for a reason.

If you are having major issues, you might try some fermcap

Spend $5 and get Fermcaps, dont overthink the problem.

I highly recommend fermcap when doing high-gravity ales.

Don't forget that krausen wants VOLUME, not elevation. A 1-1/2" 3-ft tall tube won't have that much volume.
