ok so i brewed this last weekend with a friend, so if i messed up i cant really fix it now, but i would like some advice.
we were going for a big hoppy red, as i have a pound each of amarillo and simcoe coming to the LHBS soon. we will wet hop the snot out of this thing. we brewed on very short notice so i had to make this recipe on the fly, here is what we did:
10 Gallons
12.5 pounds 2-row
8 oz caramel 40
8 oz simpsons roasted barley
4 oz special B
2 oz simpsons brittish chocolate
mashed BIAB style and dunk sparged, then added;
12 pounds gold LME
boiled 9 gallons
3 oz chinook @ 60
.5 oz magnum @ 60
2 oz cascade @ 30
1 oz amarillo @ 10
1 oz ahtanum @ 10
1 oz Centennial (whole leaf) @ flameout
OG : 1.074
half fermented with S-05 and half with wyeast Headwaters ale
my question is, beercalculus and another website put the IBU's around, 75 which is what i want. but i have heard that these calculators can be innacurate. i also noticed that my 30 min addition was bigger than other recipes. Did i over hop this beer?
