I know this has been discussed before, but I was hoping for a way to improve upon my technique.

I made a 11g batch of Haus pale ale by mashing 21lbs of grain in 11 gallons of water. I then added two gallons after removing the grains at the end of the mash. Boiled as usual. I ended up with 11 gallons on the nose.

Of course, my hydrometer was MIA when I did this, so I have no idea what I was looking at for efficiency or OG. Further still, I had never made a batch of this at 5g, so I don't have anything to compare it to, taste wise.

The whole process was completely painless, I have a ratcheting strap to hold the bag, etc. My question is, before I brew this again, will this partial volume mash have any appreciable effect on the numbers? Should I assume that my efficiency was lower than normal, and up the grain bill to compensate?

Thanks.

You would have lost some sugars by just adding water and not sparging. Why not do some kind of modified sparge?

Yes, your efficiency might be a little low, but compared to what? Do you know what the recipe efficiency was based from?

Rather than just adding water to your brew after removing the bag, try gently pouring the additional water needed through the bag as it is suspended over your keggle, this will perform a sparge and rimses additional sugars from the grain.

I performed a "modified sparge" and hit 75% eff on a blonde yesterday. Thanks guys.

What size kettle do you use for 11g BIAB?

Converted keg, so 15.5g.

No problems at all boiling 13g, but I dont think id want to do any more. Boil over was certainly possible if you weren't paying attention.
