Ok So I broke down and bought two Better Bottles. I decided to use one for fermenting a wine. And I’m using the other for an attempt at Mead. Here is the complaint, When I go to move the bottles the thin wall plastic on the bottle gives unlike a glass bottle. My problem with this is that when you squeeze the bottle and then release it all the water in my air lock was sucked into my Wine and Mead. It’s to bad the bottles aren’t a little more ridged. I think I'm going to stick with the glass.

Why not use a milk crate to aid in moving? I'd just take the airlock out but then, I am not as worried about contaminants as most. Meh.

Yeah that is probaly the only draw back to them...As long as your airlock liquid is sanitized, then suckback isn't a problem.

The blue betterbottle handle will mitigate the effects when you use it...a milk crate will as well.

If you're using one of the three piece airlocks, using less liquid in the airlock prevents most of that "suckback."

I don't have a better bottle, but I have the brew hauler strap thing that is pretty nice, with the exception of getting it on and off a full bottle sitting on the ground. That and the price....

but it works well.

That's why the better bottle airlock is a drylock. :D

I just take the airlock off mine when moving them. I don't think I have enough fluid in the airlock to suckback anyway.

That handle does not play well with stoppers & airlocks.

When I move my Better Bottles full of Apefelwein, one hand grabs the neck and the other goes underneath the bottle. This system works fine.

Crates would work best though.

When I have to move my BB I just remove the airlock and dump the liquid. I then move it and refill the airlock.

I remove the airlock cover with a piece of saran wrap move and replace the airlock. Once I got distracted and the saran wrap was on for 3 or 4 days . Beer came out fine.

My milk crates have a $250 fine printed in their sides, i'm in trouble times seven. Living on the edge.

Similar can be bought for a few dollars at the wall-targ-co's of the world minus the embossed legality.

That said, I plead the fifth like 20 times over.

Actually, I askes a store owner if I could have a few and he told me to take a stack he had separated out. Apparently, he had change distributors and the old one refused to claim their crates despite his calls (so he said). He claimed they had been there for a year. And they had the grime to prove it.

My concience is clear that is, until the dairy police read this and send their agent MIW's over in their Elsey cruiser.

Only one person in here said to use the dry airlock that BB has available... that would seem to be the best case unless there is something about it I am not aware of.

The Dry lock is 12-16 dollars. I can get an air lock and stopper for 3 dollars. Thats probably the main reason. Plus the Dry lock doesn't have the cool bubbles going through it. :D

It is relatively expensive compared to a carboy cap and 3 piece airlock combo.

I was being funny, HA HA, but it didn't take. I don't use the drylock either. :D

I also take the airlock out when moving the BB, but just in case I forget I use the cheapest vodka I can get in the airlock, so I don't really care about suck back.

True. But not having to worry about the airlock might make it worthwhile. You could also use it for the closed fermentation loop that they talk about. Or don't pull it by the neck! :)

If you use the bubbler type airlock, you can use a piece of blue tack and seal the top of it before picking the bottle up, you will not have to worry about the water getting sucked into the beer hence no need to take the airlock out.

Hmmmm...I don't use an airlock, I always use a blow-off tube, even though I rarely have enough krausen to get even close to the neck. But the main thing is...I move the BB to it's resting place, then pitch the yeast, then install the blow-off tube and it doesn't get moved again until I get ready to bottle. Why is everyone moving their carboys around after installing the airlocks?
