After experimenting with a couple home brew recipes I realized the importance of controlled temperatures during the fermentation process. I bought the temperature controller and just need the proper fridge to fit my 6.5 gallon glass carboy.

I'm dedicating a section of my garage to my home brewing efforts with a utility sink, counter top and cabinets. I'd like to fit the fridge under the counter top, so we're talking no bigger than 6 cu ft size fridge. The dimensions on the carboy are 26" high (including stopper and airlock), and about 15" in diameter.

Does anyone use a mini-fridge to control the temps during the fermentation process, or have researched the best fridge to use for the job??

Also, does anyone know if I can use the temperature controller on a mini-freezer? I don't know why i couldn’t but I haven’t heard too much about it.

I've been searching for a while but haven’t found the perfect mini fridge to complete my home brewing lair. Any help would be greatly appreciated,

thanks!

You can use the temp controller on the freezer. I've done that with my small chest freezer a couple of times.

I used a mini fridge for a couple of batches until I got a full size one. The problem for me was only being able to have one batch going at a time. I love having the full size fridge, as I can fit two 6.5gal primary's and two 5gal secondary's on the top shelf and two cases of 22oz bombers underneath to condition. The freezer stays in the mid 30's, and I use it to store my hops, cold mugs, beverages and other stuff. I got the fridge for $20 on craigslist, and modified it with scrap wood shelves and a flat door panel so it could hold everything I needed it to.
