Haven't seen any Three Floyds around, but heard there are rare sightings of it. I love wheat beers and want to try Gumballhead.

I asked the local store if they could see if they could get some. They have a decent selection but I think I am asking for a miracle.

So I had this crazy idea that once the weather got warmer, hop on the motorcycle and take a trip to IN with empty saddlebags, all in an effort to obtain various beers that don't seem to make it far from the brewery.

Same with Great Lakes - I never knew half the beers they made because I see the same 5-6 products in the store every time I go. I have been wanting to try their ESB (Pompous Ass).

Is the trip to either brewery worth it to sip some of their rare nectar? Even if I came back empty handed at least I spent some time on the bike exploring...

I've been to Great Lakes. I liked it. they are one of my favorite brewers.

The food was fantastic. They didn't have much in the bottle shop that I couldn't get locally. They did have some good stuff on tap. Maybe take a few growlers if they fill them there.

So I took a road trip to Fort Wayne, IN and paid the Trion Tavern a visit. Tons of 3F stuff on tap. I went to Cap N Cork down the street, but not Gumballhead 6 packs. I called the Belmont Stores and they all said the same thing - they get it on Thursdays and it sells out the same day.

I tried Zombie Dust, Gumballhead, Alpha King, Robert the Bruce, Nite Wolf, Dreadnaught and Back Masking.

Of all of the brews, I was most impressed by Gumballhead and Back Masking. Apologies to those that love ZD, but it tastes like an over-hopped SNPA to me. Not bad but I did not find it as tasty as some of the hop heavy brews I've had.

I liked Gumballhead so much I ordered a pound of Amarillo hops to make a clone of it. When the weather is better I can see me making some trips to the brewery for a tour and to pick up some 3F beers that I can't seem to find locally.

I also had the pleasure to drink a Great Divide Espresso Oak Aged Yeti on draft. I have had the regular bottled stuff, but not the oak aged.

FWIW, if you are in Central Ohio the Trion Tavern is decent place to go hang out for a few hours. They claim to have 58 taps and keep the list up to date on the web, but that said they had some type of blowout Wed night and some of the 3F beers were already gone....

I was told that Indiana just passed a law allowing breweries more production. There should be some in the future heading this way.
