hey all:

recently brewed a belgian strong and everything pretty much went as planned. however, after three weeks in the bottle the beer is crystal clear and yet pours very cloudy.

so any inisght on this? when i say 'cloudy' i'm not talking about a little bit of crap floating around in the beer; it is straight up dark... and i'm not talking about 'stout' type of dark; it still looks like my belgian ale but it just looks 'solid'.

also, i considered the fact that i might just want to let it sit on the counter for a couple of days to see if it cleared up. did this, and it did not.

so thanks for any help. it's still a rockstar beer and i can post the recipe if needed, but this cloudy issue really concerns me.

So it's clear in the bottle but not in the glass? My first guess would be overcarbonation, but I'd imagine you'd be complaining about volcanoes after opening if that were the cause. The recipe might help, but I'm really at a loss as to why a brew would be clear in bottle but not after opening unless you're stirring up the sediment. Did you use any clarifiers? How long has it been chilled prior to opening?

thanks for the reply. and, as a matter of fact, i have had carbonation issues. strange, but quite a few batches under my belt and have never had a problem with carbonation but now...

i'm getting some bottles that are just perfect, a few that are dead flat, and a couple of volcanoes. and no, i'm not stirring up sediment. that gets left in the bottle, and if you were to look at one of these brews in the glass it's just this superdark non light penetrating brew. whereas it should be crystal clear...

it just flabbergasts me how it can go from being as clear as it is to basically looking like mud (tasty mud mind you). anyhow, thanks for the help.
