Hey Guys,
When using the Mash tab on Beersmith, should you change the MASH TUN TEMPERATURE to match (as close as possible) your SACCHRIFICATION TEMPERATURE?

So if BS calls for "Add 39.24 qt of water at 162.4F" and the Mash Tun Temp is defaulted to 72F, should I adjust it to as close to 162.4F as I can since the "Mash Tun" (kettle) will already be heated?

Thanks,
George

No, that temp should be the temp of your MLT before adding water and grain. BS uses this temp to calculate what the temp of the water should be to get as close as possible to your mash temp after mashing in. I usually just put in whatever my ambient temp is, plus I measure the temp of the grain after milling for that entry.

On the design screen, there is a box next to the mash profile labeled 'adjust temp for equipment'. Make sure this box is unchecked and you will not need to worry about adjusting the temperature of the mash tun. This same box appears just below the mash profile on the mash tab.
