Anyone out there ever received or gave a gift from a beer of the month club? Seen a few advertised lately and thought that might make for a cool gift idea. What company did you go through? Were the selections good? Etc...?

Wow, that is definitely not cheap to get into!

If it were for me, I would pref to grab singles from somewhere like Liquidsolutions or Blinnys and have em shipped to me. Luckily, I have a great local selection and don't have to deal with the shipping part (not to mention that it's illegal in PA :( )

I've looked into a few, and the price seems exorbitant for an opportunity to HOPE they send good beer. I'd sooner find a good local store or place a few expensive online orders for beer I know I want to try.

I was given a 3-month beer of the month subscription for my 21st birthday and I loved it. It was October-November-December so I got a lot of great winter style beers. Though I know its pricey, I was glad that my sister got it for me.

Actually, that Rare Beer one doesn't sound bad... $37.50 for three 750mL a month? Yeah, it's a 3 or 4 dollar markup, but if you are somewhere that you can't find unusual beers, that's not really so bad....

Got a 3-month one for Christmas. Was pretty good. Featured 4 beers from 3separate breweries each month. Only problem was that DHL would not leave the delivery on the porch, someone over 21 had to sign for it lest the beer got in the hands of minors.

Does anyone have any other recommendations for Beer of the Month clubs? I tried to find reviews of some but their don't seem to be many. Before I sink $150 or so into one as a gift I would like to make sure it is actually decent.

This is precisely why I do trades. Luckily I am close to some of Michigans better Breweries so I have an opportunity to get good stuff that a lot of people on the west coast can't and vice versus.

Anyone on the west want some KBS and Hopslam? :D
