i recently started kegging and have 2 beers kegged. I've noticed that a little bit of beer leaks out of the liquid out on them. doesn't seem like a lot but i did have to shop vac out about an inch of beer after being out of town for a week.

i have keg lubed the dip tube and post o rings. i usually keep the CO2 pressure at 20 psi for a day or so when first kegged and then down to 10-12 psi after that.

when the kegs are done, i'll add more keg lube. also planning to put on some plumbers tape before putting the post back on. wondering if i need to replace the poppet or if anything else could be causing this. any ideas?

Try finding leaks with a star San soulution sprayed oh your posts to narrow it down.your keg disconnects may also be the culprit.try taking them apart and lubing the o-ring inside it.

Using tape on the riser threads will likely cause more problems.

If the keg leaks without a QD attached, the problem is either the poppet gasket is bad, which would be easily visible as the leak would be in the top of the post; or the dip tube O-ring is bad or missing, which would cause a leak from under the post.

If the keg leaks only with a QD attached, the problem is the post O-ring.

Put pressure on the keg, figure out which problem is extant, and fix that...

Cheers!

I had similar symptoms that turned out to be a missing poppet spring. The keg lube plus the pressure kept the poppet closed until I installed the beer out QD, then the tiny disk got slightly crooked and beer wept out. Recommend next time you go to the LHBS, you purchase a small collection of springs, seals and the like so you can repair any missing/damaged parts that cause leaks. Might be cheaper to purchase replacement poppets and keep for spare parts.
