So I was wondering if I could get some legal advice from this forum on whether it was against the law to trade my IIPA for some Silver Laced Cochin chickens? Would it be legal if it was non-exotic chickens? What if he fried the chickens first and we just swapped beer for bird? If we just traded a smell of the cooked bird and beer, is that going to get me in trouble with the Feds?

Also, off topic, I have a friend who thinks PBR is better than Black Label and I told him he was SOOO wrong. Can you believe that??

Now returning to your regularly scheduled discussions. Please note the strong hint of sarcasm - trading smells was supposed to be the hook, but I'm obviously not quitting my day job.:ban:

You probably want to get the advice of a lawyer from your state, of course its when you start to inquire about things like this when the problems start. Its not like you are taking money for it, you are just trading something you have for something he has. So, if you just did it, and you both didn't go around telling everyone about it, nobody would know or care. Its more likely to be a problem if you are trading with a business as that is different because he would have to keep records of that fact, and the feds may be interested in what went on there. Just my guess though, I'm no legal expert.

I think there's supposed to be a sarcasmark somewhere in the post. Maybe.

I think you're probally messing around my man, but i'll say that if you're friends not a cop or an ATF agent and you're not wearing a sign saying look at me what i'm doing is maybe illegal then you're fine. everyone gets too caught up on this legal stuff. i bet a bunch of people (of course none on this forum, certainly not me) end up going over that 200 gallon limit by quite a bit, and i bet quite a few people (certainly not me) have not declined when a friend said ill give you 10 dollars for a six pack of those. The cops don't have computer chips planted in your brains

and that's the end of my rant

He was not happy with that comment! :D

Do not trade beer for anything. Just share your beer to your friend and he can simply give you some chickens because he wants to......

You should be fine giving him some as a gift, and receiving a gift from him of the birds.

Right?

Exactly on any particular day share some home brew with him and on another similar day he can give you some chickens for being such a great friend since he has to many. :D

What about if I just borrowed the chickens until they layed some eggs and kept the eggs? I'd let him use the beer briefly as some thermall mass and aroma - which would then be recapped less some CO2? Is that legal? I'm ready to take the advice of you random set of people with my life because I trust you!

Right exchanging gift is common in many cultures. I've had people buy grain for me and i made it into beer and then they had some to take home. The guy that gave me most of my bottles and my best critic gets a 6 pack of everything i brew. But ive never taken money

Don't think you should trade your beer for chickens. My suggestion is to set up a date with your neighbor and make beer can chicken together.

Time for lunch yet?

Honestly, no matter what you do, with something this tiny you should be totally fine. I mean, if people can sell "bottles, contents not included" on eBay (Westy 12, etc) then the enforcement on this can't be too insane.

All you have to do is ask him 3 times, "Are you a cop?" and you'll be ok. I think it also works if you say, "it's just a gift," 3 times. I'm serious. Trust me. I heard it from a guy one time, who really knows about this stuff.

It is very legal, and even commonplace, to consume quantities of homebrew then choke the chicken.

Just don't do it outside, no one like to see a chicken tortured, even though they know what's going on by that look in your eye.

You know, it's much easier to break it's neck than it is to choke it. Plus I heard if you choke your chicken you could go blind. I assume that's because it could beak you as it's taking it's final breath or something. ;)

I have heard there are actually two common techniques one is hold the body with one hand while quickly pulling on the head with the other, best results with a firm grip but not to tight so you don't damage the meat. The other is a little trickier to get right without damage and that is to grab the head and crank (like starting a model 'A') if your hand slips there will probably be some kind of damage.

You make it far too complex for us. Have an of-age female in your life take care of it. They know what to do, and your chicken will be dispatched in no time.

however it is lawful for the potential chicken choke-ee to encourage the potential chicken choker to willingly engage in chicken choking by purchasing a pre choked chicken cooked at a local eatery for the consumption and enjoyment of the chicken choker

<Fake whiney voice on>

You guys, I'm serious! Can I trade Eggs for beer smell or what? About to pull the trigger and know you'll keep me out of prison with your expert advice!

And I'm not getting the violence on chicken references here - doesn't everyone like fried chicken?

<Fake whiney voice off>

Go to the local police station and swap the beer for chicken right outside the front door, I bet you'd get away with it. If they do see you it's probably not worth the paper work for them.
