I need to buy a new beer bottle capper and I am looking for recommendations.

I would like to keep it under $50.

Thank you,
Dean

fwiw, I still have one of these that survived thousands of caps and it always worked well if I remembered to lay a film of oil inside the bell. Still use it for boat beers...

Cheers!

I have the same one. Last time I used it the bell went cock-eyed on the down stroke.
Didn't make a good seal. I believe it was operator error - I forgot to oil the bell.
You said it works well if you remember to oil the bell. In your experience, if you DON'T oil the bell, are your results the same as mine? (I'm trying to troubleshoot here). Thanks

That looks good, I see it is magnetic to hold the cap, but how does it apply the cap?

From the link day_trippr provided, for some odd reason the picture fails to show the lever which you pull down to apply the cap.

EDIT: The above is incorrect. There are 4 pictures. One does actually show the lever.

You mean, this lever?

That's in the first pic that appears when I click on the link I provided earlier...

Cheers!

DOH! My browser opened to the second picture which cuts off the top. Then I saw there were 4 pictures. I'm going to bed now before I cause further damage.
Please see post #4
Thanks

Mine is very similar, except it doesn't automatically adjust the height. I've capped a few thousand bottles, works great. The bell does stick once in a while, but spraying a little water in the bell every few bottles prevents that.

If you ever want to cap stubby bottles, a bench capper is a must.

Edit: this is my version. I think I paid ~$40 at the LHBS.
