Simple comparison of two vanilla beans:
Left: Brewers Best (Unknown Origin)
- Very dry
- Hard to the touch
- Shriveled and bark-like
- Not much interior seeds to scrape out
- Smells very minty, not much vanilla
- Loose plastic packaging with zip-lock. Great for sealing up when only using a bean or two
- Cheaper
- More beans
- Can buy locally
Right: Beanilla (Tahiti)
- Moist and delicate
- Very soft feeling
- Bulging and smooth
- Lots of interior seeds, almost like toothpaste where I can squeeze it out
- Smells very rich, when it gets on the fingers and under the fingernails the scent lingers forever
- Came in a vacuum-sealed style package. Very air-tight. Will need some other method of storage if using 1 bean at a time.
- More expensive
- Fewer beans
- Have to order online
Even though I got more beans for a lower cost from Brewers Best, I felt that the beans from Beanilla were substantially greater in quality which gives results! I would buy from them again.
