I have been BBQ'ing for years...Actually cater year round and do Whole Hog competitions a couple times a year (2011 Mayberry Days Champ). I started homebrewing this spring with a friend which led to me getting my own gear...(first batch was 9/11/11) and have 5 solo brews under my belt now. I've entered 3 competitions and got a 2nd with a IIPA(palmetto) and 3rd with a RyePA(boneyard)...what I'm wondering is, are there BBQ and Brew Festivals, Competitions, Clubs..etc that I haven't heard of? Just wondering.. It would be awesome to have someone with the same interests at these Pig cook-Offs I do in NC! Any feedback is appreciated..

I don't know of any competitions (I'd love to know of some as well), but my brother and I have somewhat joking talked about starting a BBQ brewpub, with me as the brewmaster and him as the pitmaster.

Mmmm, whole hogs.

The world championship BBQ contest is held in Memphis each May.

Maybe they can add in brewing to the mix?

There was a bbq and brew festival out here in Los Angeles near the Santa Monica pier. The bbq was fantastic but it was mainly commercial beers with just a few craft breweries. It wasn't really a competition either but it sure was delicious.

I think a bbq and brew competition is an amazing idea.

Yup I'm big bbq smoker here in Evans. Love the cooking process and I think that's why I'm really digging the home brewing process. Some similarities. Patience!

I'v been bbq'in for more than 4 decades, but never got around to competitions. & home brew goes real well with them. Combining them would be a great idea.

Currently brewing my first batch and one thing I'm looking the most forward to is drinking my home brewed beer with some homemade BBQ, ESP. my smoked fried chicken;)

I live in Memphis...This would be a fabulous idea!

I have been to the Beer, Bourbon and BBQ festival the last three years in Nashville. Lots of microbrews and bourbons available. You pay for a ticket and its all you can drink beer and bourbon, and they have BBQ stands from local BBQ places set up around the place. Its lots of fun. Looks like there are two in NC this next year. http://www.beerandbourbon.com/north-carolina/show-info

I don't know of any up this way, but I have my brew rig double as a 3 burner stove on my smoker. The smoker works awesome, so does the brew stand for that matter!
