Not fine enough and too difficult to properly sanitize, no way.
Could it be used as a hop spider?
Sanitizing should be simple, just submerge it in starsan for a few minutes (I know it only takes 30 seconds). I agree that using it to filter the beer from primary into the secondary will oxygenate to an unacceptable level.
I’ve never transferred to secondary. But I’m only interested in fast turnaround times for my beer. It usually sits in carboys for 2 weeks, cold crash, fine with gelatin and keg. Grain to glass in 17 days with crystal clear beer.
Gelatin is what i use to clear beer too. It works amazingly well.Thanks. I've been looking into the gelatin method for ales at least. I kind of dig the sediment in the brew. I think my problem on the last batch was that I made a strawberry sour, but didn't use a bag for the fruit in secondary. Lots of extra sediment but no negative affect on flavor. I'll probably have more success with the stainless conical fermenter I have coming soon, at least with the heavier yeast/yeast byproducts.
