very cool. i definitly see the very clean area, much different then there down town pub. theres an empty room in the very back behing a bunch of glass im interested in, im wondering if a coolship will go there. theres also an area to the left that looks like it might be their to-go area, im hoping to visit soon tho!
They’re going to have a 3 barrel test batch system in that space. The equipment hasn’t arrived yet.

As of at least 5 years ago, they still had RR stuff on tap at Korbel.
Yeah that's still a thing. You have to go to the cafe. They'll have like three things on tap, usually non BA stuff. Typical would be Damnation, Pliny, and like Happy Hops or something. Still a fun alternative if you aren't into bubbly.

Translation: GI wasn't going to give them anything cool because **** California, so they're bailing. I would be beyond shocked if CBS did anything that would hurt their bottom line out of high-mindedness. Spite? Sure. But for good reasons? Lol.

Never went to a CBS Black Friday event because I'm always out of town for family stuff, so no big deal for me. I'm usually scrounging for regular BCBS anyway (though it's a lot easier to find every year. Variants still really hard to find though).

ahh i thought they did something stupid to lose getting the cool **** from goose island. either way, I have never gone either and always thought it was never worth it.

I have no inside info. I just know that GI has never sent CA anything even close to a reasonable amount of stuff and CBS is run by jerks, so I think my scenario is probably closer to the truth than their post.

Arbitrator, this one should be fielded by you.

City Beer Store did the same when I called them out for reselling 2011 Framboise for a Cure with a $5 markup (RR had distributed it that year with the condition that places sell it at cost). Profit on a charity beer for cancer! Craig and Beth are ghouls.

Like everyone, they're in it for a buck. Unlike everyone, they're unethical. I'd rather support places run by people who have souls.

any context as to why ? I'm new to the bay area and have liked CBS so far, curious as to what's caused this rep
Others have mentioned, but high markups, ****** inventory practices (IE unchilled IPA bottles in direct sunlight at their old spot, knowingly selling IPAs well past their freshness date | IE not caring for their product) then being total ******** about it when asked. As mentioned, the owners are well known to be entitled little *****.

To add to this, their family owns a distributor and that's a big part of why they got the beer/access they did early on (I'm also not sure how that's legal given 3 tier laws, you'd think if it were ABI having some random exec's wives opening up stores etc people would be pitching a fit, but whatever). Their success is like 95% nepotism.

I'm probably in the minority, but I never felt any of the offenses were particularly egregious (except for the FFAC markup which they clearly sorted out with RRBC who has never been reluctant to cancel accounts). Their bottle prices aren't the best and they keep bottles of Union Jack and 90 Minute in sunlight. Cool, I rarely bought bottles there and there probably isn't a need to buy shelf IPAs anymore anyway. And I have a hard time caring about their family connections.

i’m also in the minority

i used to go there on my lunch break in college a lot back in 2010/2011, had hours to kill between classes.
back when the old spot was half it’s size. it would only be beth or craig behind the bar and i’d ******** with them drinking a beer or 2. can’t tell you how many free beers they’ve poured me, or special bottles they sold me.

one time i came in and craig said i had to try something before i ordered. poured me a tall pint glass from a unmarked tap. never had younger again in an uncrowded bar

things changed when they expanded, hired a bunch of employees. at first it was fine, alot of their employes stayed there for a long time. I remember talking to conner a lot when he worked there, thought he was crazy that we would be able to open cellarmaker, even after he explained his business plan. he wanted to be the west coast HF, fresh ipas and grolwer fills only. boy he proved me wrong. i remember him talking about having a coolship on the roof, wonder if he ever did that.
after he left it was a rotating door of diferent employees and i went there less and les

i’m not saying the previous stories aren’t true, but i’ve only had positive experiences and i’m not in the position the talk negative about them.

one thing i do remember is when they cut ties with 50/50 and the sold almost allll their old stock at $26 to get rid of it, i got a bunch of 2009 elijah craig’s from that flash sale!

i bought a lot of cool stuff right off the shelf from there, like batch 1 darkstar november, berserker when that first came back, batch 1 wanderer, partridge in a pair tree. a lot of stuff.

i always found it odd that people complained about their prices, when healthy spirits is like 10% more across the board since i can remember
