Gonna be in SF for a couple of days in October (20-26), mainly for a conference but it looks like I'm gonna have some time for exploring. According to that map a few pages back it seems that I'll be staying in the the general vicinity of the "Tourist/Gay" areas (even more specific it seems to be called "Tenderloin"?). Saw that Cellarmaker is about 10 minutes from the hotel, so that's a definitive go-to place and I guess that all the other "go-to" beer places are already mentioned in here, but anyone up for a short recap? Is Alvarado st available at all in SF?

Would for sure be up for a (slow)run in anyone lives/works/whatever in the neighborhood and/or a small IP trade!

City Beer Store is also close, and they get Alvarado cans every Wednesday

Beer Hall is also close and gets Alvarado cans. They also usually have a killer list and so half pours.

Welcome! If you are walking from the Gay Tourist area (which describes most of it). Be mindful of the trek from your hotel to say City Beer Store and Cellarmaker. Area is interesting for sure and not as clean as Stockholm can be. Haven't been to the new City Beer Space, it is bigger and more crowded I assume. I say hard pass on that, unless you want to try draft offerings.

  • Crafty Fox is a good spot, they always carry Alvarado cans.
  • Old Devil Moon is a wonderful spot, with wine, beer and cocktails. Food is not bad and close trip from Crafty Fox.
  • Always visit Toronado.
  • Bottle shop visit K&L Wines. They have a large store and selection in SoMa, which is less gay, more leather, techbro, and dirty needle.

Damn, bad neighborhood?

Not if you are staying at the larger hotels like Parc 55 or Nikko. If you are hanging out on the corner of Eddy and Hyde or Turk and Jones then there will be: drug sales, drug users, poop, great Bahn Mi spot, students going to law or medical school nearby, etc.

Walking around you will be fine, but may be a shock coming from a cleaner city.

Eh I saw some stuff in Stockholm. The biggest shock will probably be how sucky public transit is.

well definitely not the best. i used to work in the city and was the person in charge of the calls i that area. our work trucks were broken into on the regular, so we would carry all of our tools with us.
your not really in danger but your going to see a lot of things you cant unsee lol

++Exactly the experience we are going for! ... nahh, I had nothing to do with the bookings but it sounds like we probably got cheap on the accommodations

Tenderloin has some great Indian and Vietnamese spots. It's super central yet not touristy due to all the drugs and crime. I've never gotten in trouble out there, but you see a lot of ****. Just don't be on your cell phone when you walk around and walk with a sense of purpose and you should be fine.

Or bring out your throwing knives!

My lazy reading had me at first thinking you were going to tell us there was a Blood Orange IPA takeover at your bar in Brentwood.

18 blood orange taps at Imperiale Beer Cafe, Brentwood, CA 94513 this Friday from 5pm-12! Actually we’re doing a Modern Times takeover this Friday but I won’t be there for it. Getting some “pastry-wine”, oblivion ring and Nelson beers from em.
