Maybe I just don't understand beer, but EoC at the Trappist last night tasted just like a beer that had its bottle cap seal broken: flat, bile-ish, and watery. I was really looking forward to it, too. :/

8th & Broadway was amazing, though. SPON was good too, but not very gueuzey at all. More like a wild ale with a marketing push behind it.

I thought it was flat too, although I did like what I thought was citrusy funk. Even ordered a second pour just to make sure.

Agree that 8th and Broadway was amazing. SPON good too, and surprisingly impressed with Aurelian Lure.

That's strange. I didn't get EoC at Trappist since I had it at the Portal last weekend, but it was great there. My friends who got it didn't complain.

The SPON was weird. That could've been any base beer, the barrel/wine character was just way too strong.

Was it the original EoC at the Portal, or batch 2?

Nope. Tomorrow and Friday.

looks like tomorrow night and friday night. 6 on thursday and remaining 6 on friday.

debating on going just for the chance of getting another glorious glass of Of This World

Yup. My bad. Didn't read through and assumed based on social media mention (usually same-day).

I tend to avoid higher gravity DIPAs, but ******* Big Chicken was delicious this year. On Valentine's Day it was incredible. By the weekend, it was still very good, but noticeably changed already. Two different joints, so there are several variables at play...

anyone go last night to cbs?

should we take a stab at what the beers are?

wonder if they put any fieldwork put in, and alvarado has to be one giant leap right? the list is already sounding much better than last years in my head

I had Compulsory on Monday at the new Iron Springs location in San Rafael and really enjoyed it. Cool spot, too. A little weird because it's a counter service place with just a small bar area, but it's a nice addition to an area with a pretty weak beer scene. There's a new brewery opening down the street at the spot that used to be a pool hall, too.

Also, had Scarcity last night and was not feeling it.

The former manager of City Beer is opening a bottle shop in downtown San Rafael called Libation, not sure if they will have taps or not.

BeerCraft Novato is not that far from San Rafael either.

Love that spot. Was there last night, in fact. Jamie is good people.

Edit: also great news about the bottle shop! Right now, all we have is Beercraft and Ludwigs...I might be missing one...

Good to hear. Any idea on opening?

Work a few blocks from downtown. Went to State Room for the first time and enjoyed it. Will have to check out Iron Springs per pen15clubmember's recommendation. Use to go to the Fairfax location a lot after bike rides. But Beercraft is my go to and Fieldwork is a short lunch jaunt for my current haunts.

Has anyone been to The Rake next to the new Almanac tasting room in Alameda? I peaked inside and they have a pretty broad selection, just not sure if it's any good.

I went during their beer week collab event and it was busy but not as packed as Almanac and Faction. I had their collab with Henhouse and it was decent, really malty would have been a good cask IPA. The bartender that helped us though man she did not wanna work that day or it was just too hot in there. We had one beer then ended up just going to Faction after.

I really wanna go again to do their tour it seemed pretty cool because they brought out the malts and **** they used for each of the beers they were tasting and take you around their facility that you can kinda see through the windows behind the bar.

I went to State Room a handful of times in the first few months they were open and don't recall really liking any beers. It was still a yuge upgrade over Broken Drum even then lol. Been meaning to get back. The brewer had some pedigree - I think Bealtane and Lagunitas? Sounds like they're getting better now, which is good to hear.
