Has anyone else noticed a decline in Zeitgeist beer line-ups as of late? I have been sorely disappointed in their board the past three times ive been there :(

Haven't been there in years. Burger still good? Do they kick people out for taking photos still?

Check out Crafty Fox nearby

They stopped kicking out for photo taking as far as I can tell. Their tots are my go-to now along with their bloody since the beer list has become sad. Cant comment on the current state of the burger. Im generally disappointed with Zeitgeist these days :(

Their line up hasn't been good since I've lived here (summer of 2012). It's another place that seemed awesome when all you had to compare it to was bars that only had B/M/C on tap. Modern craft beer enthusiast have outgrown it. It's more of a venue destination than a beer destination. And it's venue is pretty good, esp for larger crowds.

I still like Zeitgeist, but then I'm not the target market anymore. Wish I could find e.g. Fieldwork Pulp at a place without a crowd.

Good points from you both, well said.

Stopped in to the new Bear Republic in Rohnert Park for an early lunch. Place is solid and will be a great venue when the weather is nice. There is a small bar area inside that is for beer only and there is a larger inside/outside bar area where you can get all of their beers plus liquor. Food menu is a lot larger than in Healdsburg. Haven't started brewing yet at the new location.

Hi SF/Bay area TB'ers!

I'm visiting your fine city for the first time this weekend and would love to get some practical advice!

-I don't have a car and am staying downtown, sounds like the right move is to use BART and Uber when absolutely necessary.

-I don't think I'll make it to RR unfortunately, might time will be tight. Where's my best bet for scoring some BP or PTE? Do any of the local shops sell styrofoam shippers? I'm still debating wether to check a 12-bottle shipper or not...

-Reccomendations on Bottleshops, Bars, and Breweries? So far I have plans to hit up Toronado, Almanac, Cellarmaker, Anchor(?) and maybe 21st Ammendment. Thoughts on these choices?

-I love food, have reservations at Zuni and NOPA so far, any other cool places you think I should check out? Would love to find a Sushi spot that won't set me back 2 weeks pay.

-Finally the weird/obvious question. I'd love to partake in the recreational/medical scene. My understanding is since I don't live in CA and have a card I won't be allowed into shops, any advice on "etiquette" and such when out and about should I find something?

Thanks in advance so much, if anyone reading this is in the downtown area and wants me to bring them something from NC let me know! Happy to help.

Cheers,

MD

Correct.

BevMos sell shippers. Probably the best place to find Pliny/Blind Big is Toronado, unless you know the day they do deliveries (then it's Whole Foods because of price).

Do you have a tour at Anchor? If not, skip. Definitely skip 21A. (I haven't been to Almanac's new spot so can't comment on it.) Use the spare time to check out the east bay. Beer Rev/Trappist are close together and worth a stop, Fieldwork and Rare Barrel (if you're into that sort of thing) are a big of a trek from BART but doable.

While you're at Cellarmaker, may as well walk a block to City Beer Store, they're expensive (some people call them "City Rape Store") but they have a good selection and tap prices usually aren't absurd, just some of the bottles.
-I love food, have reservations at Zuni and NOPA so far, any other cool places you think I should check out? Would love to find a Sushi spot that won't set me back 2 weeks pay.
Lazy Bear is the best.

I work near AT&T park at the moment. I can bring u a shipper if you'd like to meet near there.

I have a couple 12 bottle styro shippers if anyone wants them MDB315. I'm in San Mateo but work in South SF, both locations pretty close to SFO.

If either of you want to trade a shipper for some local stuff please shoot me a message. I can bring you a tasty beer or 5, or buy you a few pints wherever we decide to meetup. Thank so much for the quick response. I slacked big time on figuring this out!

Besides all the other sound advice you received, add Mikkeller to your list ... excellent spot in downtown

City beer is wack, but not as wack as using the word rape to describe it.
Well, yes, I don't endorse that phrase, but that is what a lot of people say. Hell, I've even see "CRS" used around here. Some people have a hate-boner for them.

(Personally I think they're fine, just a bit childish. The thing where 50-50 switched off the family distributor so they dumped all their Eclipse stock (at shockingly reasonable prices!) and stopped carrying it was hilarious.)

Say no to drugs!

Can't help you. But lots of smokers around. People seem to use a pen on the low mostly. Just hit up Craigslist for a local delivery

The BevMo in Emeryville carries shippers still but they're all the pulp ones. That banhammered in The City, too?

Anchor does tours but they're during normal business hours, so I've never actually gone on it. I've heard it's cool from friends that have visited.

I would skip 21A, personally. I guess if you're going to a game, it could be worth a quick stop. But I wouldn't go otherwise. And if you are going to a game, I'd just go to Public House as you can enter the ballpark from there.

There's not a whole lot else beer-related right nearby that's worthwhile, but if you find yourself in the Mission, Crafty Fox is solid.

If you can meet around the airport or South SF, I'm happy to hook you up with a shipper for free. Send me a PM with your travel details and maybe we can work something out.

If not, I'm sure AndresR can hook it up. He's lovely.

Just for clarification MDB315 you will not be finding any Blind Pig bottles anywhere outside of RR's pub. That is unless they started distributing them again, but I don't think so and it's been a few years. Pliny doesn't have the luster it once did, but still sells fast. You might be able to snag some in bottles if you hit Toronado on a Wed or Thur.

Under the radar, but Swirl on Castro is an old client of RR and they used to have a ton of Pliny and BP. Haven't been there since moving to the other side of the bay, but if you just have to get a bottle of Pliny and Toronado is out, Swirl probably does.

MDB315 I have one Blind Pig bottle left that I picked up two weekends ago at RR, you're welcome to have it. Thing is, I have a flight early Friday afternoon. Are you here before then?

Guys,

Thanks so much for the info! I decided at the last minute to check a shipper, sounds like I might have some luck scoring some cool stuff to bring home for the guys.

I am! I fly in Thursday. I'm staying at the Serrano, what can I bring you for it?
