Question:

Heading to Brussels next week and doing an IP with a TBer from Sweden. He asked for some shelf hops since they don't get much/any there. Around SF, what are some good shelf IPAs to bring that won't take forever to track down? I was thinking some MT and Alpine, tho other input is appreciated!

Pizza Port, Cellarmaker/Fieldwork if Crowlers or Growlers are an option.

Leave the Green Flash Alpine on the shelf where it belongs.

I was gonna say fieldwork but he mentioned wanting to stay in SF and also last few trips to fieldwork I thought quality had dipped pretty hard, especially on the IPAs and DIPAs

(running for cover)

You are entitled to your opinions, I think you are an idiot, but you can have them all the same.

Was there a couple weeks ago. Check out Houtsiplou and order a burger. Stupid good food, and very close to Moeder's Fontainas location (which I liked better than the original spot). Can also sit outside and they have a decent taplist.

Be prepared, limited Cantillon or 3F bottles are all-but-nonexistent around town.

Yeah id personally look for freshest MT and Pizza Port just because the cans will be so much lighter than glass in your luggage and you can bring quantity. Id probably skip the alpine and grab a few pliny from Toronado or something.
Rampage IPA, Brew Free or Die, 8 Tentacles, Big Daddy, Anchor IPA, 3 Flower, Ruhstaller UTTERBACK IPA, Denogginizer, and Sasquatch Ale are all awful options. I'd probably skip these.

yea i'm fully aware. you can find shelf on, well, shelves there. can only get seasonals at the breweries if they're selling them.

Put some tape on that **** and bring it down to SARA

Edit: another use - put some tussin in there then some water, shake it up and you'll have more tussin

I have a few growlers, including the Miir one from the Cellar club. Now the RR one is taking up space.

Offer stands for anyone else that wants a RR growler. PM me.

After he's taken care of, I have 2 RR growlers, free to anyone willing to pick them up in East Bay. Otherwise they're going in the recycling on Thursday night.
I've heard this offer before from you. Get drunk with the wife wine tasting and make a bad impulse buy on the way back down one day?

Nope. She doesn't mind the cellar at all; we have the space, and she even encouraged a beer fridge. I'm way more neurotic about it than she is.

I just find it ridiculous that I have 6 RR growlers, when I'm pretty sure I haven't filled any in a year. I've already given away 6, and I'm pretty sure I can give away 2-3 more with no impact to my life. They've declined in quality and increased in annoyance.

EDIT: I've come a long way from this:

But there's room to go.

In town today and part of tomorrow on honeymoon, anything I definitely shouldn't miss? Looks like cellarmaker is closed Mondays :(

Staying near fisherman's wharf if there is anything a short uber away. Beer, food, gobshite recs all welcome.

Maybe just go drink tosh's lambic if all else fails.

If you plan on heading this side of the bay I might have rec's, if you are staying in the city you need Ryan_G or someone to hook you up with their lambic stash.

Churchkey is a short walk up Columbus by the square. Nice local spot with lots of good taps.

Around the corner is some good pizza at Golden Boy or go to Tony's.

Mikkeller is not a far ride either. You can walk up to Washington Square Park and hit the 30 or 45 bus which goes through Chinatown and stops in front of it.

Everything is a short uber or lyft ride away. Hit up Toronado.

Thanks fellas, we're gonna hit an in n out then check out these spots! Thanks again!

Thanks again for the recs fellas, we went to in n out, then walked through Chinatown to mikeller. A couple beers there before we walked to city beer. Them a metro train to toronado and a bottle of 08 cable car. Dinner at magnolia with a friend and now relaxing after an uber back to the hotel.

If anyone is free tomorrow for a beer we're hitting RR in the afternoon.

Edit: city beer was awesome. Had a $14 bcbs and the bartender was extremely helpful and friendly. He also works at rare barrel, we were chatting about them and he offered to leave us RB bottles at city beer today. I think he said he works until 5 so go buy beer from him and say an extra thanks from us!

I was in 3 WF's today, did not find a single beer to buy.
You gotta find the equivalent of Bine & Vine up there. I always go into that store expecting to buy a six-pack or a bottle and always leave with over a full case of beer… (and I’ve had equivalent experiences as you with going to WF and walking out with nothing)
