Basic keezer build questions

So I have a couple question, have done some research but haven't found conclusive answers.

I have a white chest freezer I am converting to a keezer. The exterior is a completely smooth glossy white (no texturing or dimples). Plan to chalkboard paint either top or front face, then appliance black the rest. My question is, since I have a smooth surface and don't need to cover any texturing, will I benefit from priming the freezer at all? What prime/sand/paint combo would you all recommend?

Also, what glue/sealant would you all recommend for attaching the top to the collar (collar will be hinged to base), and then the rubber seal to the collar?

I treated mine like an automotive finish. I scuffed the gloss off of the original paint, and used an automotive primer, then an automotive top-coat. I didn't use any glue, just some double-stick weather stripping between the collar and the top of the chest, and then the rubber gasket from the lid to the top of the collar.

I had a white freezer that I converted, chalkboard in front, black appliance paint all around. I didn't sand or prime, big mistake. After less than a year paint is coming off... I will sand it down when it warms up and repaint.

Weather striping between collar and freezer too. I will also be adding foam board in the inside of the collar to add a little more insulation.
