I am interested in making a northern British brown ale like the one listed here:

https://byo.com/bock/item/1983-northern-english-brown-ale-style-profile

However, my LHBS does not seem to have exactly the right kind of base malt. They have Maris Otter pale, Munton's Pale Pearl, an Irish 2-row from MCI, and Golden Promise. While Maris Otter pale may not be the ideal base malt as far as I can tell it's the best of the choices I have, and should still be a degree or so darker than an American pale ale malt. Sound reasonable?

I love Newcastle ale. I am going to be watching this thread. I have all these ingredients on hand May have to brew this

The recipe calls for British pale malt, Crisp brand. Any of those pale malts will be just fine although I'd lean towards the Golden Promise (Simpson's ?) for a northern brown. BTW Maris-Otter and Golden Promise are barley varieties, Crisp, Munton, and MCI are malting companies. I would also suggest you use UK specialty malts for this beer if your supplier carries them rather than the American brands in the recipe. :mug:

Maris Otter for your base
Simpsons Crystal light
Simpsons Amber malt
Crisp Pale Chocolate

Not sure of a UK substitute for Special Roast.

Mild malt is a good choice.

If you lhbs Maris otter is low floor than that will be about 1.5 L. I would go for golden promise in that case.
