After doing several brews over the last 2 weeks, including an AleSmith IPA clone (still fermenting), I have a ton of delicious hops leftover.

I have Mosaic, Simcoe, Columbus, Cascade and Cirta, plus some Amarillo and Chinook.

I thought it could be awesome to make a super tropical style IPA, that has that really juicy and fresh aroma and taste, but I haven't put together my own recipe yet, so I figured one of you guys had a good base grain bill for an IPA, and maybe some good advice on how to use these hops.

The AleSmith IPA had 5 different hops, but not really a big amount of them, so maybe that's the route I need to go here as well.
Are any of these best for bittering or aroma? The Citra and Mosaic are from this year and are seriously delicious, so maybe they would go great for dryhopping.

Any advice? :) :tank:

Well, with the hops you listed, I'd more than likely do a small to moderate 60 minute addition of columbus. From there you could blend the remaining and do an addition late in the boil (i typically do an addition at 5 minutes). Achieve the tropical/juicy thing, it all comes from your whirlpool additions and dry hop. In a 5 gallon batch, it's not uncommon for me to use a pound of hops.

All of the hops you have would do well with a tropical thing aside from chinook (just my opinion). Go a little lighter on the simcoe. The rest should play nice together.

Good luck!

I like both! Lately, I've been more into the NE style. The haze doesn't bother me, but I can also live without it. They're just as good clear IMO.

5 gallon batch:

73% 2-row
4.2% Dextrose
2.8% C-20
2.8% Carapils
8.5% White Wheat
8.5% Flaked Oats

Bitter with Columbus - Whirlpool and Dry Hop heavily

I like juuuuuuuuust a touch of Caraaroma or other dark crystal. Just an ounce or two. Gives a touch of flavor and color while being too small of a quantity to impart any real sweetness.
