Barrel question

Hi I don't know if anyone can help me, my buddy gave me a 6 gallon barrel but he had to barrel just for show and always kept water inside of it I was cleaning it out and a lot of crap came out of it I used hot water then cold water than hot water and it smells fine no off smells, can I still use this??

You're going to want to run some a barokleen and acid cycle through that barrel before you use it. If it's a wine barrel you may want to burn a sulphur stick. If it's a spirits barrel, that is not a good idea, but probably won't matter if it's been soaking with water. If it's not moldy and smells fine, then it's probably ok to use.
