I would like to barrel age a beer but I have many questions.
I like mostly Wheat beers and Ales.
Would these be a good beer to oak?
I know used bourbon barrels are preferred, but my choices would either be a new barrel or one of my used 5 gallon wine barrels. I'm not sure how a wine barrel would work out.
I would probably age for around 60 days. Do you need to top up the barrel like you would with wine?

I have always wanted to do a Nelson Sauvin imperial ipa aged in a used wine barrel. So i'm subscribing to see what others have to say!

Wheat beers and Ales.

I have no clue about wheat beers and barrels, but lots of ales are good with barrel aging skin . Problem is over half of the bjcp beer styles are ales, which do you like. Traditionally mostly big beers and sours/wild ales are barrel aged.
