Hello All,
Have malted about 10 50lb bags of barley. these were 'spring barley'' bagged as seed grade barley. All has went fine with this variety. Bought two bags from same seed supply place locally that were from Canada and has the usual 'contents' tag on the bag and did not really say 'spring barley'.
Anyway i have a routine of splitting the 50lb bag into two plastic totes. Doing the same routine as usual during the malting process, after about 36 hours both totes started going moldy,,,,,,aka: white fuzz forming
As far as I know the room temps were same as always that being in air conditioned house room. By the time i threw in the towel on both these the smell was very bad,and of course have now seen first hand the slimy stuff that the barley turns to. I have one more bag of the same barley. I am going to give this bag a shot also. There were no bugs or strange looking by products in the bag,,,just for completeness.
Any ideas?
Barry
