Ok, I have been doing all grain for a year now..I finally stepped up to crushing my own grains. I have been using both AHB and northern for my crushed grains..nothing bad about them they do great..but man I crushed 16 pds of grain in in my new barley crusher in minutes and with the factory settings this is how grain should be crushed....up till this point the grain was crushed weak and my eff. was at 65%..Im brewing in the morining DFH 60 min IPA..wish me luck..Im, ready for finally gettiing some good eff. at the least 70% but im hoping for 80.:mug:

I went from the low 70's to an 83% average when I got my BC. You'll love it!

Just remember, you may have to adjust your recipes to use LESS base malt with the higher efficiency to retain batch consistencies.

:cross:

A good problem to have.

:p

We exchanged presents today, and here's what I got. :D

It'll be broken in Sunday with a 10 gal batch of Ed's Haus Pale Ale. :rockin:

Nice...

I have a cordless drill that worked great. I did up this recipe a bit, but not as much as usual. If my OG is high o well. It is DFH 60 min IPA. I don't think a bit higher gravity will change this beer a whole lot..It is all about the hops and I have bumbed them up just a bit more than usual. Im excited.

I just got mine as well....and it rocked through 2 batches.. I hit 73 and 74%.
and i have not adjusted it just yet.

I have heard lot of people talk about using gap tool. For those that have them what is the idea spacing to jump up into the 80's or more?

Thank

I set mine at 1:00 position on both sides. No gap tool used. I heard a few do it more than that...I am mashing now so 1 hr and I will let u know.

Due to a beautiful mistake, my insurance got paid twice this month... I've got two hundred bones burning a hole in my pocket and the Barley Crusher order screen open...

Oh boy!

Fantastic!!! I have been using a BC for about a year, and I was also getting eff's in the mid 70's. I tightened the screws 3 brews ago and got back to back batches in the mid 80's, but with sparging issues. Yesterday I backed off the rollers to the 1:00 position, and the crush looked good. I broke my hydrometer  during the sparge so I don't know what my efficiency was. I ended up canning a pint of the wart so I can test the gravity as soon as I pick up a new hydrometer.

I had no sparge problems and thought the crush looked great. I would hesitate to go much tighter but maybe a bit by bit and see how it goes. This thing works great with a cordless drill. My eff. was better but I still have to fine tune my system to get to high 70's low 80s for sure. In time
