Just curious if the majority of electric brewers use hop bags in their brew kettle or just dump the hops in? It's certainly cleaner to use a bag but if it doesn't effect the element, I'd almost rather just strain then out going into the fermenting.
 
I've done both. I usually just dump them in, it has no affect on the element.
 
dump here. i have a false bottom for leaf hops and a side dip tube for pellet hops.

had 5oz of pellet last weekend and i've had over a pound of leaf hops loose in the boil without any issue.
