The story:
I just finished my build for EBIAB. As I got element, electric, and controller.. I did do a test run run today, but that is it.

for now,I will still be using my IC, I plan to put it into a bucket of starsan the last 15 min of boil. ( using a steam slayer, so can not add to boil.). So now I am looking into different ways to cool my brew..

I have been looking at plate chillers. But not sure if it is for me. I am hoping to keep it simple, no pumps, other than a submersion pump that I use to recirculate my water for my chiller.

questions i have is, would I need to recirculate my wort, or can I just open the valve( slowly of course, and let the flow go? Would use the Resercualing system, which consist of cooler and ice.
Without a pump would gravity feed be sufficient to clean a plate chiller, and cool the wort?

thanks

I hope this article will help:

If you don't want to pump wort, I would suggest continuing to use an immersion chiller.

You can possibly use other chillers without a pump, but there are disadvantages to that, and a higher risk of clogging. Cleaning and sanitizing a plate chiller without a pump would likely prove difficult or impossible.

I agree with above...plate chiller not a good option for you. Heck, plate chillers aren'ta great option for those with pumps...but that’s a different thread.

I’d clean that IC really well after each brew and again before brew day and then sanitize as you are.

Cheers!

My advice for that is to add your chiller 1-2 minutes before the end of the boil.

As soon as you put it into boiling temperature wort, it'll be completely sanitary. No Star San needed.
AND the chiller will drop the wort temp, so steam won't be a significant problem.
