I am going to be visiting the Ashville NC area and I hear Ashville is a good place for micros. Also will be visiting the Chesapeake VA area. Can someone recommend a few places in Ashville and Chesapeake for good micro / brew pubs?
Thanks

Go see Highland Brewing, Green Man Brewing and Asheville Pizza and Brewing Co. Highland had my favorite tasting room/space with live music their Black Mocha Stout is fantastic as is the Oatmeal Porter. Green Man's IPA is stellar and Asheville Pizza has really good pizza and their Shiva IPA is good too.

The green man brewery (aka Dirty Jacks) is one of my favorites. They always have something new and interesting on tap.

Highland has a new tasting room. Actually it's more of a concert hall. Highland also has a new small brew system they have been using for small experimental batches. These one off beers are only available in the tasting room.

The wedge is really nice with a artsy hippy vibe and a huge outdoor seating area.

But don't miss the thirsty monk. Best beer bar in the area. most interesting selections of stuff you won't see anyplace else in town.

You may also enjoy Brusin ales. It's the best beer store in the area. Amazing selection.

Enjoy our fair city!

I'll be down there this weekend for a wedding, hoping to hit Brusin Ales and a brewery or two (depending on how much time I've got).

Don't bother taking deodorant, nobody else there will be wearing any. Great beer, but an overload of hippies.

Dirty Jack's (Green Man) is a great spot for sure. It's also relatively close to The Wedge, which makes some of Asheville's best beer. It is even closer to the downtown Asheville Beer and Pizza Company (the original is further outside of the downtown area), which is also very good. If you want to drive over to Black Mountain, go to Pisgah!!!! Awesome place with great organic beer. If you can only do four, these are definitely the four to go to, and stay the hell away from LAB (Lexington Ave Brewery)- you'll wish you had a Miller Lite to save the day.
