Couldn't resist. Had to have the HBT talk poll on AZ Proposition 201.

Do you agree / disagree with the AZ ruling of no smoking in enclosed public spaces.

Your vote Counts!

(or delete the whole darn thing Mods :))

I almost went with Ralph Nader, since I don't live there, but it's only a matter of time before it happens here, too, so I went with # 2.

I could've add the "vote for no more than two' thing but doubt it'd worked. hanging chad...

I do think that we tend to enact too many laws that should just be manageable with common courtesy. That being said I am a non-smoker and would just prefer a smoke free experience when I go out to eat/drink.

I enjoy a good cigar from time to time with my brews. If I can be served outside, I normally prefer it but will abstain during the warmer months.

Oh, and I voted no on the prop and #2 here.

Wild

I don't understand how a smoker could vote "No" on this poll. However, there is one vote for "Agree and I'm a Smoker". Do you hate yourself or something? :drunk:

I voted #1. If common courtesy prevailed, then the govt. would not have to intervene here. So your smoking counterparts ruined it for you. And if someone voted that you smoke, but would prefer non-smoking establishments, then kudos to you. You have the common courtesy I am refering to.
The bottom line is you cannot control where your smoke goes, so you are affecting others. Those of us who voted against smoking in those places don't care if you smoke, just not when it affects us. And it would create too many issues to have to confront a smoker everytime he lit up without using the common courtesy.

Besides, it just makes another excuse to invite friends over for homebrew at your place, where you can smoke as much as you want.
Interesting discussion, by the way. :mug:

I agree ! But, I do not think that the govt. should intervene. If that is the case all polution should be banned, cars, factories, or anything that could harm someone. Is is a slippery slope.

Indeed! If we use our advances in technology to make things that pollute obsolete, we'd be making progress.
:)

Edit: I'm just now realizing that there's a previous post about this topic.

I love how non smokers always cite common curtisy while walking by me as I am standing outside when it's freeking ZERO degrees outside freezing my ass off trying to have a smoke . . .

If you want smoke free establishments go start one and I wish you the best of luck, but FFS dont use the government to force your wants and desires on the owners of a business.

If it's that important to you vote with your wallet.

I would have prefered and "I agree, ex-smoker" option. Utah's had the smoking ban for at least a decade. Its great. One city has even banned smoking in parks. But that had more to do with the fact that most smokers in that city were leaving their butts in the grass instead of the ash cans.

thought about it as an ex-smoker myself. but then we'd be at 7 options with nader. Didn't want to confuse the constituents. :)

It's works beautifully here in NJ. Nothing like leaving a venue after a gig and not reeking...or dinner/drinks for that matter.

Another working musician / home brewer from NJ? What are the odds?

What's your band's name and where do you play? I haven't been on the circuit for a couple years now but I used to play places like Just Jakes, Cadillac and Whiskey bars in Hoboken, and the old Palm Grill in Morristown.

Right now, this vote is 23-18 against smoking in bars.

Looks like the Ayes have it.

For those of you in the minority here, better get used to it. This all started in NYC, i think, and is spreading all over the country. It'll be up there in WI and everywhere else, eventually.
:off: anyone seen the recent movie "Thank you for smoking"? check it out, it's interesting. Those from both sides of this issue should enjoy it.

My only regret in life is that I wasnt around for the Conch Republic and it wasnt taken more seriously:( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conch_Republic

I'm not even drunk and I'm talking about seceding . . . . It's going to be a long day

I was in Walgreens today and cigarettes are now $6.99+ tax. I'm so glad I quit smoking.

Walgreens has over inflated their prices on smokes for a few years now, your better off going to a vending machine then Walgreens. Around here the normal price is about $3.50ish

You've got the right idea, in my opinion.

Very nice choice!! I really don't care about this whole proposition thing. I am a smoker as I have said in the past. I don't mind going outside to have a smoke. When I do have a problem is when they state that you cannot smoke on sidewalks and even in your own car!! WTF is going on around this country. I would love to quit and have tried many times. I figure the only way that I can stop is to stop drinking.......and as we all know the brewery must keep going:D From what I have read though, this is for only public covered dwellings. Patios are still good and does not go into effect until May.:mug:
