I just started my first 2 batches of Edwort's Apfelwein, and each have an OG of 1.050 compared to Edwort's 1.066. I only deviated from the recipe by using Mott's apple juice instead of Tree Top. Is this the likely reason? Anyone know the SG of Tree Top? I measured Mott's at 1.046. Does 0.004 sound about right for 2 pounds of corn sugar?

Corn sugar is about 46 ppg, so assuming you did a 5 gallon batch, that would be:

(46 x 2)/5 = 18.4 gravity points, not 4.

46 + 18.4 = 64.4, basically identical to what EdWort got. Chances are you didn't mix the liquid well enough before taking your gravity reading.

Unless your serious about knowing the exact abv of your wine, i wouldn't worry about it. I would think its more important to know the FG then the OG.
