So i have this small steam cleaner. It is like one of those shark steamers you see on TV. When racking to secondary I used 1Step to sanitize and then sprayed the rest of the stuff I was using with my steamer. I dont think this will have any adverse effects but I was just wondering if anyone else has done something similar.

did you sanitize the equipment THEN steam clean it? or did you only sanitize some things without steaming them?

some companies use steam to clean, and sometimes sanitize, but thats around 300-400 degrees.

I would think that wouldn't be a high enough temprature to truely steam sanatize unless its a commercial grade.

i sanitized and then used the steam. but was wondering if i can just steam instead of the 1step sanitizer

Cleaning and sanitizing are two different things. Cleaning is to remove any debris that you can see. Sanitizing is removing MOST of the microorganisms that we don't want in our beer. Sterilize is to completely remove all microorganisms.

You can use steam to sanitize but that steam is usually under some sort of pressure and should be at 250 or so for 20 minutes.

If you don't want to use a sanitizing product I would recommend cleaning the equipment and then using your dishwasher with no detergent using the full cycle to sanitize.

You can use your oven to sterilize bottles but that takes at least an hour to do. What I like about using your oven to sterilize your bottles is you can wrap the top with foil and it will stay sterile until you use it (as long as you wrap the foil tightly around the neck). But again it will take at least an hour at 340.

First, one-step is no longer sold in the USA as a sanitizer. It used to be, but the FDA got greedy so now its only marketed as a sanitizer. You need like 5 minutes of wet contact with one-step to sanitize.

Second, the steam cleaning is not getting your gear hot enough long enough. It'll get it CLEAN, but not sanitary.

leave the shark for cleaning the kitchen and bathrooms.

get some star-san to sanitize with in the future an you'll be set!

+1 one for star san.

Just make sure you clean your equipment before using a no rinse sanitizer...well I would say clean your equipment no matter how you sanitize your equipment.
