Anyone make a thermowell for carboy out of stainless tubing?

Hi Everyone,
I have a length of 1/2" 304 tubing that I would like to use for a thermowell for my carboys. Does anyone know how I would go about this without TIG welding it (do not have that at my disposal). Would an aggressive crimp do the trick? Plugging it with something? Any suggestions would be great, thanks.

The one's I've seen have a crimp.

I'd think 1/2" diam would be too big unless you had a really fat thermo.

If crimping is the way to go, how would I go about crimping 1/2" tubing with a 0.049" wall? Sledgehammer?
