nope, not new, relatively new to the forum, have brewed lots of extract brews. Thanks for the tips!Just to be sure since you recently joined. You are doing a partial mash brew and not an extract with steeping grains? They are different.
Assuming you are doing a partial mash:
If you are brewing indoors on the stove and can fit your pot in the oven, pre-heat it to about 150 degrees. Or what your mash temperature should be. When you have stirred the grains well, cover the pot and put it in the oven. This will help to keep your mash temperature from falling during the mash.
When the beer is fermenting, control the temperature. Mid sixties is best for most ale yeasts. Look up the optimum range and shoot for the middle.
