Dry and cool will be your best bet. with a freezer, you could have an issue with moisture anytime the get repeated cooling and warming. I succesfully brewed a good beer with 2 year old grains kept in my gatorade cooler. Resists temperature changes.

Outside of the moisture issue it is the best place to store grain. Depending where you live bugs and rodents can be an issue. an extended storage at high room temperatures will hurt a grains ability to break down to 'sugars'. I live in FL and all of my grain lives below 32f till the day before brewing. Cold grain really screws with hitting mash temps.

Grains can be stored in the freezer. But think about it. They are harvested once per year. Do any of the grain vendors and distributors freeze grains for storage? Moisture is a bigger issue.

I store my grains in buckets with gamma seal lids. Keeps moisture out. Also bugs.

Works just fine for me.

I got a couple of those Northern Brewer plastic fermentors very cheap during black friday or some other sale.

I store grains in those and cap with plastic in a cool garage. Doing fine.

Already had a bunch of glass fermentors and haven't had to use the plastic ones yet.

Bonus is you keep the box, and they stack well!

No place cool at sea level in Hawai`i unless home is air conditioned. Mine is not and if the wife and I go out during a summer day the house will be over 100* when we return. So....my grain stays in vacuum bags in a plastic bucket under the back deck where it never gets much over 85*. So far all beers have been fine/great.

PS....have to keep my cigar humidors out there as well. LOL No I won't give you my address...LOL
