Got a ? The wife's '06 Accord had been leaking freon from the high pressure schrader valve. Last summer my buddy put freon in it a couple of times. Kinda forgot about it through the winter and last week I got 2 replacement schrader valvles for both the high and low sides..

Today my buddy pulled a vacuum on it and then hooked up the freon but the compressor will never turn on to finish pulling the freon in... The can will get cold for a couple of minutes but then it just stops..

Is there something we're missing? Something you have to do (jumper or something) to get the compressor to kick on so the system will take the rest of the freon?

Thoughts?

Thanks!

I believe when you are filling any ac unit with freon in a car you have to put the air conditioner on high so that the system calls for more freon and sucks it in.

yeah we made sure to do that.. I was told that when you start fresh like that, the first can needed to be turned upside down and put in as liquid to get the compressor going but I dunno.. we may try that?

I think what you need is not a "honda Accord mechanic", but an A/C technician...before you make a mess.

In broad strokes (I'm not an A/C tech), when you turn your A/C on, a pressure sensor (don't remember the English name. Sorry.) in your system tells the compressor clutch when to engage or disengage, in accordance with your gas pressure. If your compressor is not engaging, chances are either that sensor or your compressor clutch (or the wiring) are busted.

My advise would be to take it to a pro. When it comes to car A/C, mistakes tend to be expensive.
