As I am gathering equipment for my electric brew kettle I have bought some 4000 watt voltage controls to vary my current to the elements. What I would like to do is install these upstream of the GFCI receptacles. I am concerned that varying the voltage will cause the GFCI to trip. Would it matter to the GFCI if voltage was varied either before or after the device?
Any electricians out there re. GFCI?

That should not have any effect on the GFCI unit. It is a simple solid state voltage regulator.
