anyone familiar with a burner like in the pic?

a friend of mine uses this for his clam steamer (commercial size for catering)

will this work or am I gonna burn a hole in my kettle?

Depends on what you have for a kettle. Fire it up and take a picture!
 
this is about as low of a flame as I can get without it burning out. it's so intense i'm afraid it might burn a hole in my aluminum pot and is too narrow of a flame for the sanke kettle i made

Whats your buddies clam steamer made of? With liquid on the other side of the metal, I don't think you will blow a hole in it too easily, and the flame will fan out some. I would not just set an aluminum kettle on top though. I think a small stand above it would be better.
 
That's one heck of a jet burner. I wouldn't worry about an aluminum pot. It conducts heat so well it can't melt with water in it. Without any water in it that burner will probably blow the pot straight up in the air...
