Sorry for another question on which category to enter a beer in, but I wanted to get input on which category you think would deduct fewer points. I’ve always been a proponent of enter the beer in the category it tastes like, not necessarily what you tried to brew.
Anyway, I brewed a porter with coconut a while ago and want to enter, either in 20A (American Porter) or 30A (SHV beer). When I first drank it it had a great coconut character. However, that character has faded. It’s so subtle now that many wouldn’t notice it’s there unless you told them.
If I enter it as intended, 30A, I’m afraid they would deduct points since the coconut is so faint. However, if I enter it as 20A I’m afraid they would deduct points IF they pick up a coconut character. So my question is, which do you think is a safer bet for the least point deductions?
