Hey all
I'm a newbie from the beer capital of the world.
I might be the cheapest human alive, so any tips on cutting down the cost of home brewing would be great.
Cheap 10 gal kettles?
Cheap burners?
etc...

Welcome to HBT.

The Portland crowd is quite large!

look around at people on the forum, I think there is even a group for PDX brewers

Craigslist, but beer stuff gets snapped up quickly in Portland. Both PDX and OBC are good groups.

Maybe you could come to a meeting and wear a "New brewer needs your ugly old junk" badge?

Welcome from East County, 16 posts and counting for me. Trying to get the feet wet.

Brewsbrothers.biz is a great resource for ingredients in Portland area. Very cheap bulk buys for when you (inevitably) go all out ;)

Welcome, randyisrad! I agree, keep an eye on Craigslist. I'm usually watching it daily, though my own buying has slowed somewhat lately because I've managed to get most of the equipment I need. You might also consider building some of it yourself. My Mash/Lauter Tun was a self-build from a Walmart igloo cooler and parts from Home Despot. Of course, I later discovered that I could've just purchased a conversion kit from Brewmasters Warehouse online for cheaper than my assembled kit (and a better kit, too!), but that's part of the fun.
