So, I've been meaning to follow up on this thread. My first batch finished 4 weeks of bottle conditioning (two weeks ago), and I'm thrilled with the result! I was expecting OK beer... but not something this good. I love it! It's an extract recipe similar to Blue Moon, but a bit stronger, spicier, and no need for an orange slice, since the desiccated orange peels I used bring out a nice hint of orange without it. It's really good, nice color, head, aroma.
I went with this recipe first, as my wife likes Blue Moon, and she bought me all the startup gear as a birthday present. I'd happily make this recipe again, but something tells me I'm going to want to experiment with other recipes now.
Now that I've seen the process from end-to-end for extract brewing, I've already got the itch to try a one-step infusion mash. Although, that feels like a rookie mistake, so I think I'll do a few more extracts over the next year or so and learn more before taking the leap.
I think it's time to start perusing the recipes on the forum and hunt down my next attempt. Any suggestions?
