a guy offered me a 5 lbs co2, regulator, 3.5 gal. mini keg and all the tubing and connections for 150. is this a decent deal? its a 2 gauge regulator, and i'm needing a new one anyways. he said the date on the tank says 02 @ 07. i don't know what this means as far as a hydro test. should i go for it?

that seems a bit high to me. what exactly is this 3.5g mini keg? i've seen 2.5 and 3 gallon cornelius kegs. not sure if i've seen 3.5 though. if it is a 3.5 cornelius keg, than that would be a decent deal, because you could probably sell the keg for a decent amount of money.

a 5# co2 tank can be bought new for 70 or so. a regulator can be bought new for 40. what tubing, and what connections? at most, it would be a fair price for new equipment, but i would not pay nearly that much for used equipment.

if you could give us a picture of it, that would help. i am still wondering about the keg.

the co2 tank is within test, the test is good for five years from the stamp, after that, it needs to be hydrotested again.

i usually pay 20 dollars for used tanks out of test. it costs 18 for the test, and usually less than 14 on the fill, depending on size of the tank. i generally use 20# tanks though. (i do have a 50#, 4x20#, 10#, and a 2.5# though) so for around 50 i get a full tank within test.

i would say to haggle with him, and if he isn't willing to go lower, just get the equipment new for about the same price. this is of course dependent on that keg, as i don't know what kind of keg it is.

Here's the post. I'm not sure how to post a picture.

Brand new aluminum C02 tank, full of C02 and ready to go. Also included is a regulator and 3 1/2 gallon keg. This keg is perfect for fitting in a standard refrigerator without and modification. Hoses and tap are also included. All you need to add is beer. Aluminum canister alone is over $100 new. $150 takes the whole kit.

and here's the link

thanks

First off...it's not brand new if he's used it.

Second, just so you are sure to not give bacteria a hand up you SHOULD replace all hoses, so they should not figure into the price. Actually, tell him not to send them if you do get this set up.

WAY TOO HIGH!! I got 2 tanks and a regulator for $77 (included shipping price).

This guy wants all of his money back.

well, the keg is a ball lock keg. i assume it is actually a 3 gallon, but if filled to the brim is 3.5.

that makes it a bit more worth it, but you should still be able to get the lot for less than 100 on craigslist. at least that would be my cutoff, but i'm pretty cheap when it comes to craigslist. haha.

Good advice homebrewer, IMO.

Where'd you find 2 tanks and a regulator for $77 shipped? Were they used or new? Great price.

$150 sounds reasonable - not great, not bad. Little kegs like that usually go for $70. If you're vain like me, you'll pay a premium for a shiny new CO2 tank (but this means you need to find a place to fill it - you don't want to swap that puppy). Figure $70 for the keg, maybe a little less than that for the tank, and what, $40 for the reg? If you NEED all of that, it's a fair price, but not much of a deal, and you are in effect paying a premium for the little keg.

No, it's too high of a price. Used price should be 1/4 - 1/2 of new. I spent about $150 for my used stuff, and got 3 corny kegs (2 ball lock, one pin lock), 5 lb CO2 tank, regulator, 5 or 6 connectors (ball locks and pin locks) with swivel adapters, a couple of faucets, faucet handles, a carboy, and a few odds-ends - bucket, brush, hydrometer, etc. --- and I think I paid a touch on the high side.
But, craigslist is the equalizer. When prices are high, nobody calls. If you sit tight for a week or two, saving his number, you might try calling back with a low offer - lack of phone calls to him may sway him take your offer.
Good luck!
