Hi All.

I'm working on making up my first recipe. I'd like to make an Amber Ale with the IBUs on the lower end of the scale.

This is a 2.5 gallon batch.

4.5 LB - 2 Row
0.5 LB - Crystal 60
1 oz - Roasted Barley

0.5 oz - Cascade - 60 min
0.25 oz - Cascade - 10 min
0.25 oz - Cascade - 5 min

US-05 Yeast

Beersmith gives me the following.

SG - 1.052
FG - 1.012
IBU - 28.6
Color - 12.9 SRM

Do you think that's a solid base recipe to start with?

looking alright to me. this is an area i'm toying with as well. you might want to switch the roast barley to chocolate malt. different flavor on the roast.

^I agree, perfectly good base recipe here. As to changing your roast malt, I don't think it will make much difference. You've only included a small amount for its color contribution, correct? I don't think the flavor is going to come through very much, so changing it up won't result in a noticeable difference in that department.

I'd sub some of your 2 row out for Munich. If this is a starting point for a recipe I'd leave it there. If you want something really interesting I'd also throw in a little special roast, 2-3%.
