I’m planning on brewing an Amber Ale this weekend and was looking for some feedback on the from the recipe. Any feedback is appreciated.

9.75lb Pale Malt (2 Row)
1.25lb Crystal 60
.75lb Crystal 10
.5lb Crystal 80
.25 Munich Malt

Hops
.25oz Chinook – 60min
.5oz Cascade – 60min
.5oz Chinook – 15min
.5oz Cascade – 5min

Yeast – US-05

SG: 1.062
FG: 1.014
IBU 38
SRM 14

This recipe looks very similar to an amber that I bottled two weeks ago and just started drinking and it turned out awesome. The only major difference between mine and yours is that I used around 15% chrystal where yours is 20% which I think might make it even better. But I'm a beginner and have only done 7 brews so far so for all I know I could be wrong. But this looks like a recipe I'd try.

I've only got a few ambers under my belt, so I'm no expert, but I'm looking at trying one of Yooper's Ambers and it calls for about 20% crystal. She does mention "to mash no higher than 152, so it attenuates well." I assume this is due to the amount of crystal.

Looks good but I think it will be a sweet, caramel, toffe like flavored amber ale. Would consider dropping the C10 and subbing in 1/2 pound of victory and upping the munich to 1/2 pounds. What could set your amber apart would be knocking off maybe a portion of the C60 and C80 and using just a touch of pale chocolate to bring it up to color...it gives a nice faint biscuit/nutty effect.

Seems to me the .25 munich will be lost. i would up it as well. quite a lot of crystal for my taste too, but you may like it.

Ok, I think everyone is right about too much Crystal so I changed it up a little.
Fermentables
% Weight Weight (lbs) Grain Gravity Points Color
10.00 American Two-row Pale 48.4 3.3
.75 German Munich 3.6 1.1
.75 American Crystal 60L 3.3 8.2
.75 American Crystal 80L 3.3 10.9
.50 American Victory 2.2 2.3

Also, with US-05, it attenuates like crazy so with a beer this small I would mash at 154 too keep it from being thin and watery. I would think that 1.013-1.014 would be about perfect for this beer to end up at.

Now lets talk about your hop schedule:

No need to waste the cascade at 60..use the chinook to bitter it up at 60 and use your cascade for finishing the beer...
30 IBU of Chinook at 60
1 oz casc at 10
1 oz casc at FO
1 oz casc dry hop

that is what I would do....

I've been toying with the hops on just doing Chinook for 60 then a 10 and FO. I was thinking of changing the Chinook to either Columbus or Centennial for 60. I've got about a pound of each just sitting in the freezer.
