Hi there !

I'm going to make a sanitizing solution with Iodophor .

What I have is a 10% aqueous Povidone Iodine solution .

I've read in an article that to obtain a 12.5 ppm sanitizing solution ,

you should use 1/2 fl. Oz. of Iodophor in 5 Gallons of Water .

1/2 fl. Oz. = 15 mL of Iodophor

5 Gallons = 19 Lit.

15/19 = 0.8 mL of Iodophor per Lit. of Water

So , for Example , if I'm making a 5-Liter-sanitizing-solution ,

I should measure 4 mL of Iodophor and dilute it with Water to 5 Liter .

I'd like to know if I'm doing it RIGHT ?!

Hector

I usually just mix up a full 5 gal batch... If you can measure 4 mL accurately enough to be satisfied, then yeah go for it as your math is sound.

I use Iodophor all the time. Your math looks correct, but you may be overthinking the whole thing. I put about half a capful in 2 1/2 gallons of water, but I do not bothering measuring. I aim for a weak brown color in the water and then the proportions are right. I do the same for small sanitizing chores (air locks, hydrometer, ...) and put a few drops in a large bowl of water. I have never had an infection and no iodine flavors in the beer.
