Aluminum Kettle's Oxide Layer

Hi all,

I've searched and found lots of things that are around my question but nothing that answers it directly.

I just bought an aluminum brew kettle and, following the advice here, boiled water in it for 30 minutes. The kettle has turned almost black inside which I'm assuming is the right thing but the dark color on the inside doesn't go all the way to the top, it stops about 3 inches from the top. Is that enough of an oxide layer to do the trick?

That's what mine looks like...you are good to go!

Yup that's what mine looks like too. If you get your wort level above that you'll have one heck of a boil over anyway.

Just adding that mine is the same way. Nice and black on the bottom, but that disappears towards the top. Works great, just waiting on a good deal for a bigger one. I'm convinced that aluminum is ok to brew with. (Unless i find a cheap keggle).
